• Google 2010 mapper and modeler summit

    • 25 August 2010
    • In the beginning of the year Miloš and Bojan were invited to attend Google Mapper and Modeler Summit, with more then 80 digital cartographers from all around the world. Invitations were sent personally to the best of mappers and modelers of Google Maps. Conference was held in Zurich, Switzerland.

Passion towards cartography had fleka implement Google Maps within various projects, so our mappers were very well experienced and informed about the service, its features and limitations. Just as any other Google service, Google Maps relies on the quality contributors that with their own effort and dedication only enrich the modern view of the world we live in. The goal of the conference was to connect such people at one place and have them communicate all the relevant subjects and push the quality of the application one step further.

The event itself was defined as an “unconference”, which meant that program of the conference was only loosely defined and that attendees themselves decided which topics were to be discussed. Similar rules applied to the lecturers, so that both Miloš and Bojan had the chance to mediate few discussions themselves. The topics ranged from implementation of dynamic data into the maps (such as traffic data), interface, copyright, to the process of optimizing data entry ... and many more. Besides the conference part, attendees had the chance to see Google offices, feel the atmosphere, enjoy the food and experience everything that makes Google - Google.

It’s impossible to describe the excitement Miloš and Bojan brought back from Zurich. For days, they talked about discussions they had, great people they met, buildings and facilities, interior, food, atmosphere. They had lovely experience and we hope they get the chance to visit Google again.
